Inaugural meeting of the Forum

Meeting proceedings

The inaugural meeting of the India UK CEO Forum was held on 3rd February 2011. The meeting commenced at 10 Downing street with the CEOs from both countries discussing the Forum vision and priorities. There was high level of ministerial engagement from the UK side with the Prime Minister, David Cameron addressing the Forum along with the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, Dr. Vince Cable. Chancellor George Osborne also addressed the Forum in the morning session. The Indian Cabinet Minister Shri Anand Sharma and Dr. Vince Cable then met with the Forum members for lunch and discussed the good work already in progress between the two countries and the role of the Forum to further deepen the bilateral linkages in trade and investments. This was followed by a session amongst the CEOs on agreeing the priority areas of focus of the forum and laying out next steps. The Final session for the day saw the CEOs discuss the meeting agreements and outcomes with Ministers Sharma, Cable, and the UK Minister for Trade and Investment, Lord Stephen Green.

Key agreements

In its first meeting, the Forum agreed to initially focus on 4 broad areas:

  1. Infrastructure and Energy
  2. Health and nutrition
  3. Education and skills
  4. Research and Development

In addition to these priority areas, the CEOs agreed to progressively highlight and help remove impediments to deepening bilateral trade and investment.
